Bruno My Story

By Bruno Tonioli

  • Hardback
  • £20.00

The eagerly anticipated and highly entertaining memoirs of Strictly Come Dancing's most popular judge.

Bruno Tonioli is the unmistakably flamboyant Italian who has entertained Strictly Come Dancing's countless fans for very nearly a decade. Bruno lights up every episode of the smash UK show - as well as Dancing in the Stars in the USA - with his high-energy, warm and deliciously humourous critiques of the celebrity contestants. For the very first time, fans can now read all about this highly engaging and life-affirming man who has rapidly established himself as a British national treasure.

Born to staunchly working class parents and raised in a very conservative Catholic village in northern Italy, Tonioli knew from the age of 8 that he was not constructed like many of the other boys he played with. Forced to train for a "proper job" as a bank clerk, Bruno was eventually to find a way to express his creative abilities and ended up a dancer and then a renowned choreographer, arriving in Britain in the early 1980s. His career took off and he found himself immersed in the buzz and hedonism of the vibrant 80s scene, rubbing shoulders with the great and the good from the worlds of theatre, music and film. Wonderfully rich and colourful stories from this era abound.

For Bruno, the last decade has - of course - been very largely about the Strictly phenomenon, and his memoirs do not disappoint in taking fans behind the scenes to witness for themselves the magical ingredients of one of the most popular shows on TV. The book will delight with its warmth, depth and wonderful sense of joie de vivre.

Blog: Christmas TV Round-up

As we all know, Christmas is a time for reflection, rest, and seeing your loved ones. More importantly, it’s the only time of the year when it is acceptable to fill a bath with twiglets and watch The Muppets’ Christmas Carol (at least it is in my house). So here’s a quick rundown of this year’s festive TV highlights. Monday 17th THE FABULOUS BAKER BROTHERS DO CHRISTMAS (9:00pm, More4) Everybody’s favourite baking duo have cooked up 12 mouthwatering dishes for the 12 days of Christmas. Forget the sprouts, how about whisky-smoked salmon? Bosh. Tuesday 18th BRADLEY WIGGINS: A VERY BRITISH CHAMPION (8:00pm, More4) Aah Wiggo, is there anything he can’t do? More4 are repeating their documentary about the mod, god and newly crowned Sports Personality of the Year. Friday 21st UNIVERISTY CHALLENGE CHRISTMAS SPECIAL (7:30pm, BBC2) ‘Why are we watching this? I never know any of the answers and I just—Hydrochloric acid?! Oh, it was John Milton. Still I was close. Anyway, why are we watching this?’ Get those answers in quick to avoid a Paxo stuffing… Saturday 22nd STRICTLY COME DANCING (6:30pm, BBC1) Our own Bruno Tonioli and his fellow judges will be presiding over this year’s final. Expect laughs, tears and bauble puns aplenty. Christmas Day Betty’s done her speech, you’ve scrubbed all the goose fat off the oven door, and you’re just about hoping that John Lewis snowman gets run over on the motorway. What better way to calm down than a repeat of a documentary about Eddie Stobart lorries on Channel 5? Cracking stuff! Alternatively… DOWNTON ABBEY (8:45pm, ITV1) David Mitchell and Benedict Cumberbatch aren’t the biggest of fans, but the rest of country will be tuning in to see half the Downton lot off on their summer hols whilst the others prepare for the Thirsk Country Fair. Here’s hoping for extending scenes of Maggie Smith guessing the weight of a cake with acerbic asides. Boxing Day Sky Atlantic treat us to a show about Richard E. Grant staying in expensive hotels whilst Channel 4 go with hairy-footed, sword-fest, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. At just over seventeen hours long, expect scenes of an Elven nature. And finally, everyone’s favourite hapless heroine Miranda Hart kicks off series three of her eponymous outing with a festive special.
