Debra Kent
Authors:

Suburban wife and mother, Julia Flanagan is good to a fault. She always plays by the rules, does what she's told and puts her family first. To be honest, her life's become rather dull - and her sex life is humdrum, to say the least. But all that changes when Julia's best friends dare her to start living dangerously. At first, she only breaks little rules - mixing her recyclables, illegally downloading music - but when Julia meets a handsome professor at work, she finds that having started to live dangerously it's hard to stop...

According to the old rhyme, 'Monday's child is fair of face' - but life isn't always so simple. Gorgeous goddesses seem to surround script-reader and wannabe movie-maker Anna Brown - from her deranged glamour-queen boss to her perfect, pouting flat-mates - for Anna, being less-than-beautiful is very hard to bear. In fashion-and-beauty-crazed London, perhaps being talented just isn't enough. Enter Mark Swan, Britain's hottest director. Rugged, reclusive and powerful, he could be Anna's ticket to the top, but how can she ever hope to snag such a big star? Fed up of being downbeat and dowdy, Anna decides to chase her dreams and, with a little help from her friends, embarks on a madcap scheme to get just what she's after...

Squeeze me slowly. Tim Downer's own life is in chaos, but he's paid for his qualification as a life coach, and he's going to use it. When his new, and only, client tells him she's had a huge windfall, he believes he really could turn his - and of course her - life around. He doesn't suspect that there's more to 'Debbie' than the scruffy, overweight drudge she appears to be. But his ex-wife Erica and daughter Alice instantly spot her dodgy wig and strange accent. Deborah is actually in Shelcombe to investigate life coaching rather than benefit from it, but she quickly finds herself fascinated by the eccentric inhabitants of the little seaside town. Which is just as well, since when the magazine she works for collapses, she's stuck there. And once she meets Tim without her disguise, he gets a few surprising life lessons.

When the local library starts up a reading group, Ed is the first to sign up. Left home alone with baby Georgia once too often, he's looking for something more stimulating than the latest draft of his tiresome thesis. His fellow readers all have their own reasons for the weekly escape. Kate's social life is at a standstill and her quirky furniture shop barely breaks even. Zoe's self-esteem is regularly battered by her married lover. Semi-retired Bob, strongly encouraged by his wife, needs to get out of the house more. Donna, aged twenty-one and a mother of two, is desperate to feed her mind and catch up on her education. When English lecturer Gideon arrives, his literary certainties spark rivalries and emotions that no one expected. As the reading circle draws its members into an unlikely community, the plots become increasingly dramatic, and their lives grow ever more entwined ...

Blog: A Taste of Christmas from our authors

Peace on earth and good will to men is all very well, but everyone knows what Christmas is really about: eating and drinking to excess. In preparation for the big day, we in the Headline office have been taking the task of expanding our stomachs very seriously and have spent the last few weeks limbering up with a steady intake of quality streets and mince pies, and maybe even a spot of sherry too.
