The books I’ll be giving this year…

If you still need some last minute gifts, find out what authors Katie Piper, Mile Gayle and Ciara Geraghty will be giving their nearest and dearest this Christmas.

Katie Piper, author of Beautiful Ever After

Enid Blyton for grown ups! I grew up on Enid Blyton and wanted so badly to be part of the Famous Five, when I read these new books I found the gentle parody hilarious. It was my mum that introduced me to the originals and would read them to me so I will be gifting these to her this Christmas

Brave by Adele Bellis– this is a story written by a strong resilient young women I met and supported through my charity The Katie Piper Foundation. Adele survived an acid attack and has gone on to help others raising awareness of domestic violence, she’s an incredible person whose story should be heard so I will be buying it for lots of friends to pass on.

My own book Confidence The Secret goes on sale 29th December and I’ve already stock piled a list of people I will be gifting it to- its the perfect companion  to start the new year with, sometimes just trying to be positive isn’t enough- my book talks you through the confidence tool box, we all it- the  inner strength , deep down  confidence but its learning how to use it, draw it out and exercise it, despite popular belief being “skinny” or having a symmetrical face doesn’t equal confidence – maybe fleeting but not real consistent confidence In all areas of our life – in this book chapter by chapter I talk about the characteristics  that make us a confident well rounded person- I share how I’ve learnt it and got it wrong, filled with personal anecdotes, interviews I’ve conducted with people I’ve met through TV programmes and my charity and also expert advice from psychologists. This is the perfect gift but also ideal to dip In and out of when needed!

Mike Gayle, author of The Hope Family Calendar

Bedsit Disco Queen by Tracey Thorn

The Versions of Us by Laura Barnett

In Real Life by Chris Killen

Ciara Geraghty, author of Now That I’ve Found You

I love giving books for lots of different reasons but also because they’re so easy to wrap. I’m giving my sister the Brother Hubbard Cookbook. She’s kind of strange in that she likes to cook the recipes as opposed to looking at the pretty pictures.

Mostly I give books that I’ve read and loved. My 2016 favourites include Emma Donoghue’s ‘The Wonder’ and Belinda McKeon’s ‘Tender’. I also like books with more than one word in the title, for example, Edna O’Brien’s ‘The Little Red Chairs’. I believe that you are what you read so giving books is like giving a little piece of yourself which, at an average price of £12 per book, is pretty good value.

If you liked this, why not try It wouldn’t be Christmas without featuring Tamara McKinley and Lucy Dillon
